Econ Illinois:
"A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words" Economics Concepts Poster Contest

Program timeline

Regional competitions are held through the Centers for Economic Education including Bradley University, Dominican University, Governors State University, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and University of Illinois at Chicago. These competitions are held in the fall or winter, concluding no later than mid-February. Twelve winning regional entries, along with twelve top honorable mention entries from each region, are then submitted to Econ Illinois for judging in the statewide competition.

Regional awards receptions or school presentations may be scheduled by the host Center, usually within the weeks just following their contest's entry deadline.

Savings bonds are awarded to the twelve student winners at both the regional and state level. Regional and State winners receive certificates of award, as do any number of State Honorable Mention recipients. Press release templates are available to teachers to publicize their school's success with, or involvement in, the Economics Poster Contest. Illinois legislators are notified in May of state-level award-winning entries from their district.

If funding is secured, the twelve Illinois winners will be included in a 12-month flip calendar, published during the late fall for the following calendar year. Participating teachers, their principals and winning students receive copies of the calendar. The calendars are not sold. Additional copies will be available upon request from Illinois teachers or students' families.

A funder has not been secured to support the production, printing and distribution of a 2011 12-month color calendar displaying the winners of the 2009-2010 contest. Funding efforts for both a 2011 and a 2012 calendar will continue.
