Donor of the Month – Chicago Board Options Exchange

Chicago Board Options Exchange

With ten years of support for Econ Illinois, the Chicago Board Options Exchange has illustrated its belief in the importance of economic and financial education for Illinois students.

The CBOE has provided financial support through the annual campaign and the American Dream dinner event.  CBOE has also regularly hosted The Stock Market Game Fall Semester Chicago winners’ reception and has been a supporter through volunteer work as well.

Ed Joyce reads to students during the Teach Chicago Children to Save programCBOE President/Chief Operating Officer and Econ Illinois Board member Ed Joyce recently volunteered for the Teach Chicago Children to Save (TCCS) program. TCCS connects volunteers to primary level classrooms throughout Chicago to teach students the importance of saving.  Mr. Joyce visited two classrooms - 1st grade and 2nd grade – and read a short story to the students.  After the reading, he engaged them in an activity to reinforce the savings lessons within the story.  The students enjoyed talking about how they earn money and the best uses of their earnings.

On January 13th, the CBOE hosted teams of Chicago students who won awards in The Stock Market Game fall competition, City of Chicago Region.  After refreshments, enjoying the view of the CBOE floor, and being welcomed by Mr. Joyce, the first place teams gave presentations that illustrated their investment strategies and what they learned through the SMG program.  View the winning students’ powerpoint presentations from the reception.

Thank you to the Chicago Board Options Exchange and all of our supporters for providing the financial support that makes our programs possible.  You are giving our teachers access to resources that will better prepare them in teaching economics and personal finance, thus providing a better tomorrow for the students of Illinois.
