Donor of the Month – State Farm ®
Like the ad says, State Farm ‘is there’ and has been ‘a good neighbor’ to Econ Illinois and economic education throughout Illinois and the country. Through financial and in-kind support, State Farm has provided many resources to the organization and to K-12 classrooms.
Virtual Economics 3.0, an educational resource for teachers in grades K-12, and funded through the generous support of State Farm Insurance Companies Foundation in partnership with the Council for Economic Education, involves teacher professional development that includes the distribution of complementary CD-ROMs to eligible teachers through teacher workshops. The focus is the delivery of Virtual Economics Version 3.0 teacher training programs through traditional training (face-to-face) workshops as well as via the VE 3.0 online professional development module. Through the program, which ran from January 2007 to December 2009, over 800 teachers have been trained through either face-to-face workshops or via the online training module.
State Farm has also been a ‘good neighbor’ through the donation of much-needed computer equipment. Computers are a vital part of any office, but can be costly when replacements are needed. State Farm has provided good, used computer equipment that has allowed Econ Illinois to update and to replace broken equipment without an additional expense. At a time when cutting the budget is necessary, the much-needed equipment has been timely and greatly appreciated.
In addition, State Farm ‘is there’ through attendance on the Board of Trustees. Through consistent representation by a State Farm representative, presence on the Board has been felt through time and effort as well as through personal contributions and matching gifts.
