Learn about the student Entrepreneurship Contests leading to NIU STEMfest on October 8 – plan to attend the event!
Econ Illinois is offering four new student STEM contests leading to NIU STEMfest on October 8. The entrepreneurship competitions are offered for the next two weeks for Illinois educators and their students.
Econ Illinois offers curriculum materials and student competitions to assist schools in meeting Illinois and national learning standards as well as to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives. Our resources are designed to develop a comprehensive skill set that fosters critical thinking and problem solving - assisting K-12 teachers as they prepare students to be college ready or to successfully transition into the workforce.
Questions concerning the September contests, or any other resource that Econ Illinois has available, can be directed to Beth Metzler, VP for Programs & Partnerships and STEM Finance Learning Exchange, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Navigate: Exploring College and Careers
A new classroom/counselor resource is available from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. It allows students to:
- examine various careers and educational requirements;
- evaluate different educational opportunities after high school;
- identify academic and extracurricular activities that will enhance their applications;
- research the cost of postsecondary education;
- explore types of financial aid and educational assistance;
- imagine their own path to success.
Initially designed for 7th - 9th grade students, the resource is being used throughout high school and into the freshman year at community colleges as well! Many students and their families may not be familiar with the pathways to education, and Navigate provides information to begin preparing for success.
Contact Beth Metzler at email@example.com if interested in free classroom sets or free individual copies of the consumable student workbook and teacher handbook.
Coming to NIU again on Saturday, October 8, 2016! Plan to visit the Econ Illinois Finance Learning Exchange booth for engaging teacher math resources & student activities and information centered around finance-related careers.
