Illinois Personal Finance Challenge

Econ Illinois:
Illinois Personal Finance Challenge

Registration

Teachers must first register on the FinanceChallenge ONLINE! web site.

Additional step-by-step directions are provided in the "How it Works" section of the FinanceChallenge ONLINE! Rules page. Following online teacher registration, Student Registration forms (one per student) and a Team Coach Registration form (one per teacher coach) must be downloaded, completed, and submitted to Econ Illinois.

Students' eligibility and teacher online registration will be confirmed. After confirmation and approval, teachers will receive an e-mail describing how student team(s) can be created. Student teams consist of four high school students per team. Student teams may be created after January 1.

Preliminary Round

For the preliminary round, teams of high school students, four students per team, take an online test of 30 questions. The top 2 teams from each of 5 regions in the state, plus the next ten highest-scoring teams in the state advance to the state finals in Chicago. Teachers are provided all the rules of the program in order to prepare students during the spring semester.

State Championship Competition

At the championship competition, the twenty teams take a set of written tests to determine the two finalists. The two teams with the highest team scores on the written tests advance to the final quiz bowl round, which concludes with the announcement of the First Place Team. The State Championship team advances to the national Personal Finance Challenge competition, which will be held in Kansas City, Mo.

National Finals

A national championship will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, for the winning teams from participating states.
