2004 Winning 3M teachers Recognizing Excellence in the Classroom

Five Illinois teachers will be recognized on October 25th for their outstanding work in teaching economics to our youth. Winners of the Council’s 3M Economic Educator Awards will be highlighted at the annual Economic Education Day Awards Luncheon at the Union League Club of Chicago.

From The President: Transitions

The transition from summer to fall can be challenging and invigorating, filled with apprehension and excitement, all at the same time. We hope you had a summer that provided rest, relaxation, and renewal, preparing your for an exciting year ahead. At ICEE, we are also going through some transitions.

The Stock Market Game™ Program  

Registrations for the fall 2005 session of the SMG will be accepted through October 27. Students manage a $100,000 stock/ mutual fund portfolio while learning curricular concepts and improving decision-making and cooperative learning skills.

Economics Concepts Poster Contests
Teachers of grades 1-8 engage their students in learning economic concepts by having them draw! Regional contests are offered this fall or winter at ICEE's Centers for Economic Education, culminating with statewide judging in April. Twelve state winners will be published in a 2007 calendar!
2006 Economics Challenges

In April, teams of high school students will compete in Illinois Economics Challenge. Two winning teams from Illinois will advance to the Midwest Challenge, competing against teams from 8 other states.

International Programs

ICEE hosted five Romanian educators in culmination of the year-long International Classroom Partnership program piloted by ICEE for the National Council on Economic Education. Four Romanian high school teachers worked with teachers from four Illinois high schools to jointly implement economic education activities in their classrooms.

Upcoming teacher conferences provide opportunity for professional development, enrichment and networking.

IGEFHS Update

A limited number of mini-grants will be available this year for schools that have been part of the Illinois Global Economics & Finance (IGEF) program. These grants may be used to further enhance the economics and finance curriculum in the school and/or to expand implementation of the International Economic Summit curriculum and simulation in the school.
