2008 Annual Connections Conference - March 5-6, 2008
Mark your calendars for the 2008 Connections Conference at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. The annual Connections Conference is sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois State University and promises to bring more than 90 sessions over the one and a half day format, highlighting best practices from kindergarten through post secondary education.

Abraham Lincoln and the $5 Note - March 13, 2008
President Lincoln invites Illinois teachers of grades 5-12 to join him at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield for a workshop on money, banking, the Federal Reserve and more - titled Abraham Lincoln and the $5 Note.
IASET Spring Conference - April 11, 2008
The Illinois Association of School Economics Teachers (IASET) will be holding the Annual Spring Conference at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus in Oak Brook. Speakers will include Professor Barry R. Chiswick, Distinguished Professor, Department Head Director, and Director of the UIC Center on Economic Education who is known nationally and internationally for his research on the economics of immigration. Mark your calendars and watch for details to be coming your way soon!
The Illinois Association of School Economics Teachers is open to membership by any teacher. Attendance at the spring or fall conference includes a one-year membership in the association. Money Smart Week - April 20-26
Money Smart Week (MSW) is a series of free classes and activities designed to help consumers of all ages better manage their personal finances. The Illinois Council is proud to be a founding member of the Money Smart organization and the Money Smart KID contest. Strategies for Teaching Economics in the Elementary Classroom, ECON 702 - June, 2008
This three-graduate hour course for teachers will be offered over 9 days in June through Governors State University.

"Teaching Economics Using Children’s Literature" - (Primary-Intermediate Grades)
This newly-revised edition of Teaching Economics Using Children’s Literature contains 5 units that help teachers integrate economics into their storytelling and language arts curriculum. The new edition brings new stories and utilizes a multitude of supplemental resources like the Kids Econ Posters website that are easy to use as an enhancement to the existing curriculum. "Financing Your Future" - (High School)
Financing Your Future (FYF) is a new personal finance program on DVD for high school teachers and their students that teaches about planning for the future through wise management of resources. The program contains five videos covering topics such as investing in one's own human capital, developing a banking relationship, understanding credit and debt, and creating a budget. Each video is complemented with three standards-based classroom lesson plans (15 lesson plans in all) that teachers, parents and mentors can use to reinforce the concepts demonstrated in the videos. The user-friendly lessons include hands-on activities that are complete with printable student activity pages, answer keys, and video summaries.
