Teaching Financial Literacy: Online Course (Grades K-12)

This self-paced online course is available through June 20.  A $40 fee provides access to the course, materials and online resources for Illinois teachers.  Ten contact hours for all who complete the course.  Once the fee has been paid, an email with the registration link will be provided to access the course.

MoneySmart Week events (Grades K-12, post-secondary)

Money Smart Week® (MSW) is a series of free classes and activities designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. Events open to the public will take place April 21 - 28.

St Louis Fed – Get Money Smart (Grades 9-12)

This dinner event on April 25 features speaker Sheldon Garon, author of Beyond Our Means: Why America Spends While the World Saves. The first 50 guests to register for this event will receive his book. The workshop will also include new and interactive personal finance materials, interactive personal finance lessons and the Fed's new online program for students: Soar to Savings.

IASET Spring Conference (Grades 7-12)

The Spring Conference of the Illinois Association of School Economics Teachers will be held Friday, April 27 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  The topic is "Economics and Ethics: Can They Co-Exist?"

Virtual Economics Version 4.0 (Grades K-12)

Select teacher conferences and workshops offer training in Virtual Economics Version 4.0. Read about this teaching resource which is loaded with activity-based lessons from over 75 publications; 51 key concepts and a glossary with over 500 terms.

Certificate in the Teaching of Economics (Grades K-12, post-secondary)

Teachers at the K-12, community college and college and university levels will develop skills to teach courses in economics and consumer economics and to include economic concepts in other courses. FTE: Economic Issues for Teachers (Grades 7-12)

The residential seminar presents four “Economic Issues” activity-based curriculum units in a concentrated four-day setting. The program is offered May 24-27 in Arlington, VA and July 28-31in Cleveland, OH.   Units include: The Economic Demise of the Soviet Union, Issues of International Trade, Is Capitalism Good for the Poor? and Economics, Water Use and the Environment.

St Louis Fed – AP Econo (Grades 9-12)

Seasoned AP economics instructors as well as teachers simply contemplating adding an AP economics course to your school's curriculum shouldn't miss this 3-day workshop June 20-22! Federal Reserve Bank staff and experienced AP instructors will demonstrate engaging economics lessons, interactive online programs, and whiteboard applications developed specifically for AP classes in micro and macro.

Conference on Financial Literacy for Teachers (Grades K-12) 

Back by popular demand, the UIC Center for Economic Education will provide this conference at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago on July 9.  Workshop sessions are activity-based and CPDUs are available for K-12 teachers. Econ Is For Life! Program (Grades K-12)

Four free workshops, each 2.5 days, offer a UIC graduate credit optionand are held on the UIC campus from 9-3:30 p.m.  If interested in attending, contact Professor Helen Roberts: hroberts@uic.edu.

North Central Business Education Association & Econ Illinois (Grades 9-12)

All business and technology teachers are invited to attend the North Central Business Education Association/Econ Illinois Workshop on July 16 in Chicago.  Tour the Federal Reserve Building, attend sessions and receive CPDUs.

St Louis Fed – Econ Fest (Grades K-8)

New lessons! New materials! Join us on July 18 for this exciting workshop featuring new lessons to satisfy the Common Core Standards. The lessons will be presented in an elementary strand and a middle school strand and will focus on biographies, historical fiction, and primary sources. Featured biographies will include Sojourner Truth, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin and Michael Jordan.

Workshops & Graduate Programs (Grades 4-12)

NYSE Euronext and the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy workshops help educators teach students about the financial marketplace and its importance in their lives and the global economy.  Workshop Dates to select from: June 25-29, July 9-13, July 16-20.

Two graduate programs are offered for educators who have previously completed the NYSE Teachers’ Workshop.  The SEC Graduate Program, held in Washington DC from July 22-27 is designed to enhance understanding of the securities markets. The NYSE Euronext Graduate Program, held in New York City from August 1-3 increases teacher understanding of complex market activities.

A limited number of fellowships are available to defray travel expenses. Application deadline for the Fellowship Program is May 4, 2012.

FTE: Economics For Leaders program in Chicago (Grades 7-12)

The Economics For Leaders program will be held at UIC from July 29 – August 3. Award-winning economics instructors will demonstrate best-practice teaching of economics, there will be debriefing opportunities, in-depth follow-ups, social activities, and more.  CEUs are provided and graduate credit is an option.

The Fourth Annual K-12 Teacher Conference was held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. 

IACTE conference

The annual CTE conference “The Uncommon Core: Bringing Brighter Horizons” was held in Bloomington on February 16-17, 2012.

DuPage Valley Social Studies Conference

The March 2, 2012 conference brought together university professors, experts in the field, and community activists to present relevant content and methodology that teachers can apply to their own classrooms.
