Econ Illinois:

Second Annual K-12
Teacher Conference on Financial Literacy:
Resources for Teaching Economics and Financial Literacy -
As Easy as 1-2-3!

Bank of America

The Second Annual K-12 Teacher Conference on Financial Literacy welcomed over 90 Illinois teachers to the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank on Friday, January 22.  Thanks to funding from Bank of America, attendees left the conference with a wealth of ideas that focus on infusing economics and financial literacy into the mathematics curriculum. Teachers also were given a preview of the revisions to the Financial Fitness for Life curriculum.  This updated curriculum is due out from the national Council for Economic Education later this Spring.

The conference offered general sessions as well as grade band specific sessions, bringing multi-level enrichment for all attendees.  At lunch, Mark Haussermann, Senior Financial Advisor from Merrill Lynch, spoke to the teachers about the importance of planning well for their own future financial needs.  This session was followed by an afternoon program that provided teachers with information and tools for making better decisions about their own financial planning.

All participants received copies of at least two curriculum packages for their grade level, and also received a classroom edition board game – What’s in Your Financial Future? – provided by BOA

This program is made possible by a grant provided to Econ Illinois from Bank of America.
