Cabrera Statewide Award, 2008-2009

Following are the top ten teams as of the Final rankings generated on Friday, April 24, based on that day's closing prices. In the list, team ID beginning with "44" identifies participants in the Spring Open Session; "55" identifies participants in the Late Spring Session and "54" identifies participants in the City of Chicago only session. This list comprises only the top ten teams in the eligible sessions, by equity.
Commentary: Although the market fluctuated greatly during the various spring sessions, no one session seemed to be at a greater benefit than another. Additionally, in my many years of coordinating the SMG program in Illinois, I have rarely seen such high equity of the top ten high school and top ten elementary teams! It just goes to show that with diligence, and maybe some luck thrown in, there is room for success in the stock market in a dragging economy! Good job to all participants! Marty Paul

The winning high school team will visit with a staff member from Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC at the New York Stock Exchange and will view the trading floor. One or two historical visits will be made in the financial district. Hotel rooms have been reserved in lower Manhattan, near the financial district. Other activities include dinner and theatre and sightseeing. The winning team will fly to New York on June 1 and return on June 3.
Accompanying the team will be Dr. Lisa Donnini, Central States Regional Director and Director of InvestWrite, for the Securities Industry and Foundation for Investor Education.
The top elementary team of all competitive sessions for the current school year will be treated to an overnight in Chicago, with visits to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Money Center and the offices of Cabrera Capital Markets, LLC where students will meet and visit with staff. Sleeping rooms have been reserved at the Union League Club of Chicago, a club rich in Chicago history and second in artwork only to the Art Institute of Chicago. A lunch at the Chicago Stock Exchange, dinner at Bubba Gump’s on Navy Pier followed by a movie or other entertainment, and a formal breakfast before check-out at the Union League Club will round out the experience. The winning team will need to arrive at the ULC by 8:30 a.m. on June 1, and will depart for home after breakfast the next morning.
Accompanying the winning team will be Mrs Marty Paul, Illinois Stock Market Game Coordinator for Econ Illinois, the Illinois Council on Economic Education.
