PowerPoint Presentations

Following are the PowerPoint shows of the first place teams in the City of Chicago. At the awards reception held at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, First Place teams all gave a presentation that included dialogue as well as PowerPoint slides.

Illinois Capitol Challenge

A special pull-out program in the fall is funded by Citigroup Foundation. Illinois Capitol Challenge matches Chicago-area legislators to their neighborhood schools. The legislators sponsored their teams in name only, received bi-weekly updates on the rankings of participating teams, and were sent invitations to assist with recognition of teams' participation and achievements at the end of the session.

The first place team and teacher are invited to visit the sponsoring legislator's office in Springfield or Chicago, with expenses paid by the Citigroup Foundation grant. Second and Third place teams are recognized at a ceremony in their school. First, second and third place teachers receive cash awards to be used for their classroom. Students and their teachers receive Illinois Capitol Challenge medals.

Following is a list of the top three teams, the teacher and school, along with the legislator who sponsored them.

InvestWrite

More than 7,100 students across the nation wrote essays to their grade-level topic. After pre-judging the student work, teachers submitted 1,852 entries for national judging. In grades 4-5, 319 entries were judged nationally; grades 6-8, 516 entries were judged; grades 9-12, 1,017 entries were judged for awards. Volunteer judges came from all states and numbered 672.

Entries are judged online, anonymously, by different judges. The composite score from that judging helps determine the ten award-winners in each of the three different grade-level competitions.
