3M
3M is fundamentally a science-based company that produces thousands of imaginative products, and a leader in scores of markets - from health care and highway safety to office products and abrasives and adhesives. Their success begins with their ability to apply technologies - often in combination - to an endless array of real-world customer needs. All of this is made possible by the people of 3M and their singular commitment to make life easier and better for people around the world.
It is this same commitment from 3M that contributes to the success of services provided by many nonprofits, including Econ Illinois. In 2009, 3M contributed nearly $50 million in cash and products to nonprofit and education organizations serving their communities. 3M’s giving targets health and human services, arts and culture, the environment and education, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). 3M partners with school districts in their communities to increase student achievement in math and science and readiness for higher education.
For over ten years, 3M has been the sponsor of the Econ Illinois 3M Economic Educator Awards. The awards recognize K-12 teachers for their creativity and commitment to the instruction of economics. Winners of the 3M Outstanding Economic Educator Award are selected based on their long-standing history of involvement in the field of economic education and on their excellence in teaching economics. Two teachers are honored with this award each year. In addition, 3M and Econ Illinois recognize ten additional teachers as Stars in the Classroom for their excellent work in bringing economic education to their students. The awards are presented at the Econ Illinois Economic Education Day Awards Luncheon in October.
We are grateful to 3M for its outstanding commitment to the non-profit sector and especially for helping Econ Illinois recognize and award outstanding teachers.
