Citi Foundation

Since 2006, Citi Foundation has partnered with Econ Illinois to make possible the Illinois Capitol Challenge, a specialized program within The Stock Market Game™ (SMG) program to connect members of the Illinois House and Senate with classrooms in their districts.  Members, who serve as “sponsors”, receive SMG updates on the student team(s) in their district, with whom they are paired, and often visit the school to meet the students.  The semester-long SMG competition culminates in awards for the teams with the highest portfolio value.  The first place team is invited to Springfield to receive their award from the sponsoring legislator. Second and third place teams are also recognized with awards presented locally by their sponsor.

The Illinois Capital Challenge support from the Citi Foundation is part of its global efforts to expand economic empowerment and financial inclusion. Through this innovative program, elected representatives have been made more aware of Econ Illinois and our important mission of providing economic and financial education within our schools from the elementary years onward.
