ComEd, an Exelon Company

ComEd

Founded more than 100 years ago, ComEd has built a reputation not only as a reliable energy provider but as an outstanding corporate citizen as well.  Through generous contributions, volunteer hours and a commitment to helping others, ComEd is dedicated to the communities in which they serve.

In 2009, ComEd was the recipient of the Econ Illinois President’s Award.  The President’s Award is given to companies and organizations that have provided 35 years of support to Econ Illinois.  ComEd’s generosity has benefitted Econ Illinois and the schools it serves in many ways.  ComEd has provided support for many years for the Illinois Economic Poster Contest through the Office of Economic Education at Governors State University, an affiliate of Econ Illinois.  The poster contest is used by 1st through 8th grade teachers as a way to teach economic concepts and use art as a fun way of letting students express their understanding of those concepts.

Through sponsorship, ComEd has supported the annual Economic Education Awards Day, which recognizes K-12th educators for their innovative and outstanding work in economic and financial education in the classroom.  ComEd has also provided the Speaker Sponsorship for the Econ Illinois American Dream Dinner event, an annual fundraiser which raises funds to support economic education programs.  As the Speaker Sponsor, a ComEd representative introduces the event keynote speaker each year.  Econ Illinois Board member and Exelon Senior VP of Human Resources, Calvin Butler, will be welcoming Deb DeHaas of Deloitte LLP at this month’s American Dream.

ComEd has also provided the time and talents of their people.  In addition to Board of Trustees member Butler, ComEd Chairman and CEO Frank Clark has been a member of the Econ Illinois Governing Board for nine years.  Clark was recognized in 2008 with the Richard Peterson award, an award that annually recognizes one volunteer for outstanding commitment to the mission of Econ Illinois through extraordinary leadership and service.

As illustrated through the awards and recognitions they’ve received, ComEd is an ardent supporter of economic and financial literacy education through financial contributions, as well as time and talents.  Econ Illinois is grateful to consistently be a recipient of their generosity.
